Watch the tutorial

I wanted to design a basic, beginner-friendly pullover that everyone can knit. If you have never knitted a sweater, this is a good first one - and it is free!

Method

The sweater has a raglan construction and is knit in the round from the top down, so you can try it on as you go and add or remove length. The yoke is shaped along the raglan lines for a classic look, with German short rows to raise the back neck. Body and sleeves are separated, and the sleeves are later knit down from stitches picked up under the arm, so the whole sweater is seamless. No sewing at the end!

What you get

  • The written pattern as a PDF, in five sizes (in both cm and inches)
  • A full video tutorial that walks through the whole sweater, from cast on to bind off
  • Notes on choosing your size and adjusting the length

Download the pattern on Ravelry or Etsy, and knit along with the video above.

About the yarn

The sample was knitted in Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt in colourway 1044, a natural white with colourful tweed flecks. Peer Gynt is a classic Norwegian DK-weight yarn: 100% Norwegian wool, not superwash-treated, 91 m / 100 yd per 50 g skein. It is light, warm and hard-wearing, and it softens with every wash.

In Peer Gynt you need 10 (11) 12 (13) 13 skeins of 50 g for sizes 1 (2) 3 (4) 5. Any DK-weight wool that gives you the gauge will work: check the metres per 50 g on the label and compare with the amounts above.
