The idea for this cover came to me on Værøy, a tiny island in Lofoten, above the polar circle. I was sitting on a cold, windy beach with my metal water bottle, reached for a sip, and the bottle was freezing. A metal bottle is great to use, but it takes on the temperature of the day. I thought: I wonder if I can knit it a sweater. Warmer to hold, and it looks cute.
Method
The cover is knit seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. You cast on, knit a bit of ribbing, then follow the chart or the written instructions through a textured pattern of bobbles, a little lace and seed stitch. Ribbing again at the top, bind off in pattern, and your bottle has its sweater.
There are two sizes, one for a large bottle and one for a smaller one that simply uses fewer stitches. If your bottle is wider than either, the pattern tells you what to do, and the height is up to you.
