Welcome to the very first episode of New Knitting Patterns, a new monthly series where I round up knitting patterns that have just been released! I hope it will be as inspiring for you as it was for me while I was preparing it.
This month there are 17 patterns: three sweaters, two cardigans, a dress, three vests, two pairs of socks, and a bunch of other amazing things that deserve a little bit of love. For every pattern I tell you what it is, the price, the yarn, the sizes and the construction. Most patterns are sold in different currencies, so I've converted the prices to US dollars to make them easier to compare. Prices are from when I recorded the video, in early November.
At the end there is a special section with three debut patterns from designers who have just released their very first pattern.
This video is not sponsored. I chose every pattern simply because I liked it.

Sweaters, cardigans and a dress
Leonie Cardigan by Minimi Knit Design
Leonie Cardigan is a buttoned cardigan with lace fronts. The lace is actually what caught my attention: it gives the cardigan a very feminine and delicate look. Everything else is stockinette stitch.
- Price: €8.50 (about $10)
- Yarn: DK weight. The sample is knit in Cardiff Cashmere Classic.
- Language: English
- Sizes: 10 sizes, finished bust circumference 76-168 cm / 30-66". That is quite a wide range!
- Construction: The body is worked bottom up, then you pick up stitches for the sleeves and work them top down. It has European shoulders and double-knit button bands.
You can choose between a cropped and a regular length. The designer says the level is "adventurous beginner", and the pattern has photo and video tutorials, which can be very helpful if you need a hand through the process. When I recorded the video it already had 30 projects on Ravelry, which is a lot for such a new pattern.
Daisy Chain Sweater by Victoria Faßbender
Daisy Chain Sweater is a pullover with an all-over three-color floral pattern. Not super bold colors, but a very bold pattern, and I love how well the designer chose the colors for the sample.
- Price: €8 (about $9.50)
- Yarn: DK weight, three colors. The sample is knit in BC Garn Brisa, a Pima cotton, alpaca and wool blend.
- Languages: English and German
- Sizes: 8 sizes, finished bust circumference 95-160 cm, to be worn with 5-15 cm of positive ease. The description only gives centimetres, but it is easy to convert them.
- Construction: A seamless top-down raglan. You start with a folded neckband, work the charted yoke, and then separate for the body and the sleeves.
One thing to pay attention to: on Ravelry the sample yarn is listed as Aran weight, but the pattern calls for DK. So make sure you swatch and get the same gauge as the pattern. Not sure how? Here is my gauge swatch tutorial. The pattern also includes video tutorials, which are very useful for beginners.
Suhotrav by Teti Lutsak
Suhotrav is a colorwork round yoke pullover. The name is Ukrainian and means "dry grass", and that word inspired the colors: earthy, yellowy, brownish end-of-summer colors.
- Price: €9 (about $10.50)
- Yarn: Sport or DK weight, if you get the gauge. Two colors are Life in the Long Grass Husk Sport (merino, silk and cashmere), and the third is BC Garn Semilla Melange.
- Language: English
- Sizes: 9 sizes, finished bust circumference 75-155 cm / 29¾-61¾", with 5-10 cm / 2-4" of positive ease.
- Construction: Top down, seamless, in the round, with short-row shaping on the yoke. The colorwork goes through the entire sweater, so the whole body is charted. The sleeves are tapered, and the neck, cuffs and hem have corrugated ribbing.
There are a lot of colors going on in this sweater, so you need three or even more, which makes it a really good pattern for your leftovers. When I recorded the video it already had 64 projects on Ravelry with a 5.0 rating. Well done to the designer!
MONA by Yoshiko Odagiri
MONA is a cabled cardigan. I couldn't spot any button bands on the photos or in the description, so I assume it is meant to be worn open.
- Price: ¥990 (about $6.50), sold on nonatemari.com, not on Ravelry
- Yarn: Sport weight. The sample is knit in NONA Rambouillet Merino Wool (Ravelry links it to Daruma Rambouillet Merino Wool).
- Languages: English and Japanese
- Sizes: Only two, but it is worn with a lot of positive ease, so it can fit a wide range of sizes.
- Construction: The cables are charted, and as far as I can tell there are no written instructions for them.
Charts are not everyone's cup of tea, but maybe this is a good motivation to learn to read them! The designer recommends MONA as a first cable project, so I assume the cables are quite easy. If you've never made cables before, this might be your chance. The pattern also links to technique videos on YouTube in case you get lost.
Tytär Dress by Greta Majewska (free)
Tytär Dress is a colorwork knitted dress, and it is free!
- Yarn: DK weight. The sample is knit in Novita Nalle in lingonberry red and off-white, which gives me a very, very Christmassy mood.
- Language: English
- Sizes: S to 2XL, finished bust circumference 94-129 cm / 37-50¾".
- Construction: Top down, seamless, in the round, with charted stranded colorwork sections on the sleeves.
Strictly speaking, this pattern was first published in Novita's winter 2025 magazine. But this is a new, more detailed standalone version, so I decided to include it. The designer pitches it as a Christmas knit, and I'm recording this in November and slowly getting into the Christmas mood, so I hope it inspires you to at least turn on some Christmas music 😄
Shuying by Xiaowei Design
Shuying is a pullover with a very, very cute tie at the neck.
- Price: €8.20 (about $9.50)
- Yarn: Ravelry lists it as sport weight, but the description says DK, so again, pay attention to your gauge. The sample is knit in Majo Garn Fine Merino.
- Languages: English and French
- Sizes: 7 sizes, finished chest circumference 90-150 cm / 35½-59".
- Construction: Top down and seamless.
The delicate tie is the main detail that caught my attention. It gives the sweater a feminine, elegant and maybe even timeless look. There are also Estonian braid details on the cuffs and hem: maybe not that noticeable, but a very nice and polished finish. I loved how this sweater looks, so maybe I'll add it to my list of next projects!
Vests and tops
Wire Slipover by TwinKnits
Wire Slipover is an oversized slipover (or sweater vest, whatever you call it 😄) with a moss stitch body and a cable panel on the front. The cables are what caught my attention: they keep you interested, just one more twist!
- Price: 50 DKK (just under $8), sold on twinknits.dk, not on Ravelry
- Yarn: Fingering weight wool held together with lace weight mohair, to get DK weight. The samples are knit in Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt and Tynn Silk Mohair. Alternatives in the pattern: Hjelholt Pelsuld 8/2 with Lana Gatto Silk Mohair, or Drops Flora with Drops Kid-Silk.
- Languages: Danish and English
- Sizes: 8 sizes, XS to 4XL, finished circumference 106-152 cm. Only centimetres are given.
- Construction: Top down. You cast on for the back and work it flat, then pick up stitches for the shoulders and work the front flat as well. Then you join the front and back and knit the body in the round. The hem and armhole edges are ribbed and finished with an Italian bind off, which I really, really love.
You can choose between two necklines: a turtleneck or a folded neck.
To be honest, I almost never use the suggested yarn. I usually go with whatever yarn I have, swatch, and go from there. But if you want your slipover to look exactly like the photos, it's nice to have a few options.
I like cables a lot recently. You know how we have these stages in our knitting journey? Sometimes I crave stripes, sometimes cables, sometimes colorwork. Right now I'm in my cable stage, and I have one cable sweater that I will talk about in a future podcast episode.
COLETTE top by Josefien Gielis
COLETTE top is a sleeveless oversized top with a turtleneck collar and a broken 2x2 rib texture.
- Price: €7 (about $8)
- Yarn: Sport weight. The designer made three samples, in Lang Yarns Merino 150, Lang Yarns Cashmere Premium and Schoppel-Wolle HanfWerk.
- Languages: Dutch and English
- Sizes: 9 sizes, XS to 5XL, finished circumference 103-188.5 cm / 40½-74¼", with 24-30 cm / 9½-11¾" of positive ease.
- Construction: Top down. You start at the collar and work increases to shape the yoke and shoulders. Then the front and back are knit flat separately until the armholes, and later joined and knit in the round.
The designer says the level is "motivated beginner", which is quite optimistic 😄 It already had 8 projects on Ravelry when I recorded the video.
Socks
Vesi Socks by Katarzyna Majerkiewicz (free)
Vesi Socks are mid-calf colorwork socks, and the bonus: the pattern is free!
- Yarn: Fingering weight, about 40 g of each of the two colors. The sample is knit in Gusto Wool Echoes.
- Languages: English and Polish
- Sizes: 3 sizes, for feet 19-23 cm / 7½-9" around.
- Construction: Cuff down in the round, with a heel flap and gusset and stranded colorwork.
It already had 14 projects on Ravelry when I recorded the video, and I'm sure it will keep growing, especially since it is free.
Fjellrein sokker by Birkastrikk
Fjellrein sokker are mid-calf colorwork socks with a stunning reindeer pattern. "Fjellrein" is Norwegian and means mountain reindeer, and you can definitely tell from the photos!
- Price: 50 NOK (about $5)
- Yarn: Fingering weight, two or three colors. The pattern suggests Filcolana Arwetta or Isager Sock Yarn, and also lists Sandnes Garn Sisu, Drops Nord and Drops Fabel. Quite a few options!
- Languages: English and Norwegian
- Sizes: This was a bit unclear to me. Ravelry says "S-M/L", and the description says women's EU sizes 38-40, so I'm not sure if it is one size or more.
- Construction: Stranded colorwork. The description doesn't say much about the construction, but judging by the photos it has a heel flap and gusset.
The designer recommends a larger needle for the colorwork than for the cuff, heel and toe, so the socks are wide enough for your foot to slip in.
Accessories and other fun knits
Yoko Set by PetiteKnit
Yoko Set is a matching pair of mittens and a brimmed hat.
- Price: 50 DKK (almost $8)
- Yarn: Worsted weight held together with lace weight. The samples are knit in Sandnes Garn Alpakka Ull with Alpakka Følgetråd.
- Languages: This is the most language-accessible pattern in the video: Danish, English, French, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch, Finnish and Polish. Not a surprise, PetiteKnit patterns are knit all over the world.
- Sizes: Junior (about 7-10 years), S, M and L, so it works for the whole family.
- Construction: The mittens are worked in the round from the wrist up to the fingertips, then you pick up stitches for the thumb. The hat is knit bottom up with a folded brim, then the crown decreases. Both are knit from the wrong side, with raised knit stitches as the texture. I would call them slip stitches, but that's the designer's fancy name for it 😄
PetiteKnit rates it 3 out of 5, a mid-range difficulty. When I recorded the video it already had 13 projects and was in 91 queues on Ravelry. If you are looking for Christmas gift knits, this is a good one! You can plan all your gifts with my free Gift Knitting Planner.
Donut Ornament by Bare Knit
This one is mine! I released the Donut a couple of weeks ago. It's a knitted donut you can use as a soft toy or as a hanging ornament on your Christmas tree.
- Price: $4
- Yarn: Any weight, about 8 g in total. My samples are sport weight, but you can use whatever yarn you want: the donut just gets smaller or bigger. Use the needles that go with your yarn weight so it looks nice.
- Language: English
- Size: One size, about 8 x 8 cm / 3 x 3" in sport weight yarn.
- Construction: The donut is knit flat in two halves, so you can use a different yarn for each half (or the same one, if you want). You start with a provisional cast on and shape the circle with German short rows. Then you join the start to the last stitches with Kitchener stitch. Once both halves are done, you sew them together with mattress stitch and stuff the donut.
It's an amazing way to go through your stash and use small leftovers from other projects. You can make it very unique with beads, sequins or embroidery, and go as wild and creative as you want. There are video tutorials for all the techniques, so hopefully you never get lost. And it uses a lot of German short rows, so it is a great project if you want to practise turning and shaping.
Majkopajk neckwarmer by Anna Hed
Majkopajk neckwarmer is a two-color neckwarmer.
- Price: 50 SEK (a bit over $5)
- Yarn: Worsted weight. The samples are knit in Svarta Fåret Ulrika, Järbo Svensk Ull and Sandnes Garn Atlas, so several options there.
- Languages: English and Swedish
- Sizes: Baby, child and adult
- Construction: Knit flat in garter stitch with short-row shaping, an I-cord or rolled stockinette edge, and seamed at the end.
It actually looks harder than it is. If you are craving a little bit of garter stitch, this is the pattern for you. The yardage is quite small, so it is a quick knit and a very good gift idea for someone who needs a little warmth around their neck.
Duet Hat by Purl Soho (free)
Duet Hat is another free pattern, available on the Purl Soho website. The designer behind it is Gianna Mueller.
- Yarn: DK held together with lace weight. The samples are knit in Purl Soho Echo Wool with Tussock (silk mohair).
- Language: English
- Sizes: Baby, Toddler/Kid, Adult Small and Adult Large, so the entire family is covered.
- Construction: Knit bottom up in the round in 1x1 rib, seamless.
Quite a basic hat, but what I like is that the wool and silk mohair together give a very soft and nice halo. Another idea for gift knits! It had 23 projects on Ravelry when I recorded the video.
Debut patterns
This is a special section for designers who have just released their first pattern. I think they deserve some attention, and maybe a little bit of encouragement!
Moss & Wood Slipover by Claudia Orabona
Moss & Wood Slipover is a V-neck slipover with a nice halo. It was probably the halo, or the green color (my favourite!), that caught my attention.
- Price: €3.90 (about $4.50)
- Yarn: DK weight. The sample is knit in Concept by Katia Alpaca Silver, but the designer says you can use any brushed alpaca or DK or light worsted yarn, as long as you get the gauge.
- Languages: English and Italian
- Sizes: XS to XL, finished bust circumference 82-114 cm / 32¼-45", with 0-6 cm / 0-2¼" of positive ease.
- Construction: Bottom up and seamless. The body is knit in the round up to the armholes, then the front and back are worked flat, with German short rows for the shoulder shaping. The shoulders are joined with a three-needle bind off, and then you pick up stitches for the ribbed armhole bands.
The V-neck looks very cute, and thanks to the brushed alpaca the vest is very light. The pattern includes a schematic and tips for adjusting the length and the neckline depth, so you can customise the fit to your body.
Gnome Hooded Scarf by BriarOE (free)
A fun one! Christmas is approaching, and I adore this Gnome Hooded Scarf: a pointed hood with an attached scarf, a scoodie. I've never made a scoodie before, so maybe this is my chance. And it's free!
- Yarn: Worsted weight held together with lace weight mohair, which gives you more or less Aran weight. The sample is knit in Cascade 220 and Malabrigo Mohair.
- Language: English
- Size: One size that fits most adults.
- Construction: The hood is worked bottom up in stockinette with an integrated I-cord edge and closed with Kitchener stitch at the top. Then the scarf is knit lengthwise in garter stitch with a scalloped edge. It wraps in two loops under your chin.
The designer mentions that your yarn choice changes the look. A non-superwash yarn makes the gnome point stand up, and a drapier yarn makes it lie flat. There are free tutorials for every technique, so if you lose track of where you are, they'll help you find your way and actually finish it.
Knit Pumpkin by Taylor Huber
The last pattern is a stuffed decorative Knit Pumpkin. So adorable, I just couldn't miss it! Yes, October is over, but I'm still in my pumpkin mood 🎃
- Price: $4
- Yarn: Light fingering held together with lace weight, to get sport weight. No yarn brands are mentioned, so you can use your scraps.
- Language: English
- Size: One size. Looking at the photos, some samples seem to have more stitches than others, but I'm not sure if the pattern tells you how to cast on more or less. Either way, a heavier yarn gives a bigger pumpkin and a thinner yarn a smaller one.
- Construction: Worked in the round on magic loop or DPNs, whichever you prefer. It is ribbed, with an I-cord detail, and stuffed at the end so you get a really nice, plump pumpkin.
It's very customisable, a great autumn decoration or a gift knit, and if you add a loop, it can probably even be a tree ornament.
